As the Chairperson of the Alaskan Olympiada of Russian Language, I would like to invite you to participate as a judge in this year's competition. We will have training on April 17, at 7:00 in the evening in room 13 at West High. We will watch videos of student participants and practice judging them. The competition will take place at West High School in Anchorage on Friday, April 18. Judges will attend a meeting at 7:45 in the morning, and students will arrive starting at about 8:15. There will be judging on six different levels: middle school, levels 1-4, and native speakers. There will be a break in judging for a light lunch, and a second round will end by 12:00, when the award ceremony will begin. Students will participate in three different commissions: speaking about oneself, country studies, and poems. The top Russian language student from the competition will be invited to attend a three-week study tour in Russia this summer. Top-performing native speakers have the chance to attend the same trip by participating in a telephone interview. We need many native-speaker Russians for this event! I am delighted to have received your name as a potential judge, and hope that you can attend. I look forward to hearing from you. If you know of others who would like to help in our event, please let me know. Please send me your complete name, phone, and mailing address when you reply so that I may be able to contact you or send some judging information. Michele Whaley,
